Incumbent Rep. Mike Thompson (D) leads the crowded top-two primary field for California's 4th Congressional District on June 2, with strong local fundraising ($2.6 million cash on hand as of late March) and Democratic Party endorsement bolstering his moderate Blue Dog profile amid advocacy for wine industry relief and wildfire aid. Progressive challenger Eric Jones (D), backed by Our Revolution and boasting $1.5 million cash from Silicon Valley donors eschewing corporate PACs, poses the main threat by targeting younger voters via digital campaigns post-2024 Democratic setbacks. Six low-funded Republicans, led by Raymond Riehle's modest $109,000 receipts, risk vote-splitting that could advance both Democrats; early voting began May 4 with ballots mailed, and online registration closes May 18. Forecasters rate the seat Solid Democratic after Prop. 50 redistricting narrowed the partisan edge.
