Garlin Gilchrist holds an 85% implied probability in the Michigan Secretary of State race because his eight years as lieutenant governor under a popular Democratic governor provide broad name recognition and a proven statewide profile, while Republican nominee Anthony Forlini, a Macomb County clerk, entered the general election with lower visibility. A late-August to early-September poll showed Gilchrist ahead 42-36% among likely voters and 46-36% among definite voters, with a sizable undecided share. Democrats secured the nomination at their August convention after earlier delegate support, and Gilchrist maintains a fundraising edge. The November 3 contest remains subject to turnout patterns, the October 8 debate, and any late shifts in Michigan’s competitive political environment. Minor-party candidates on the ballot account for the remaining market options priced near 50%.
