Canada’s advance GDP estimate for July 2026, released August 28, showed output essentially unchanged month-over-month, aligning with the 40.5% market-implied probability for a 0.0–0.1% print. Gains in real estate, rental and leasing, and professional services were offset by contractions in retail trade and manufacturing, following a revised 0.3% increase in June and robust 0.8% quarterly expansion in Q2. Broader context includes the Bank of Canada’s steady 2.25% policy rate amid contained inflation and modest 2026 growth projections near 0.7%, alongside a narrowing July trade surplus. The official July figure, due September 29, will resolve the contract and may incorporate revisions to the preliminary data.
