Despite Israel's precedent-setting recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state on December 26, 2025—the first by any UN member—no subsequent country has followed suit in the ensuing five months, anchoring trader consensus at 74% against another recognition by June 30. Recent reports from early May highlighted Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi's 21-day UAE visit, amid unconfirmed rumors of an impending UAE announcement and Somalia's claims of UAE lobbying Eswatini, Argentina, and Zambia. However, strong opposition from Somalia, the African Union, and regional actors like Egypt and Turkey, prioritizing Somalia's territorial integrity, has stalled momentum. Traders weigh geopolitical risks in the Horn of Africa against the high bar for formal diplomatic recognition, with no scheduled summits or votes to shift dynamics soon.

Will another country recognize Somaliland by June 30?
This market will resolve to "Yes" if any other UN member state formally recognizes the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state by June 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No".
Only formal recognition of Somaliland will qualify. Statements/actions which acknowledge the Republic of Somaliland, or change its diplomatic status with a relevant country, but do not formally recognize the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state will not qualify.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the government of a recognizing country; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
