Recent National Weather Service and model guidance points to a high near 95–96°F in Houston on August 30 under sunny skies with light southerly flow and heat indices above 105°F. Subtle differences in afternoon convective timing and boundary-layer mixing explain the close contest between the 94–95°F and 96–97°F bins, as any earlier or stronger thunderstorms could cap temperatures a degree or two lower while clearer conditions allow the mercury to reach the upper end of guidance. Late-August climatology favors upper-90s peaks, and current high-pressure dominance with minimal frontal influence supports the market's tight clustering around those outcomes. Updated NWS briefings and afternoon model runs remain the key near-term catalysts.
