Romania's political landscape remains unsettled following the May 5 no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and collapsed the centrist coalition. President Nicușor Dan has begun formal consultations with parliamentary parties to identify a governing majority, favoring candidates who can secure swift confirmation without risky experiments. This process, including scheduled talks with major groups like the PSD, PNL, USR, and AUR, has produced a crowded field of potential nominees ranging from technocrats to party figures. The resulting fragmentation, with Delia Velculescu leading at 28.1 percent and Șerban Matei at 18.3 percent, reflects trader assessments of protracted coalition negotiations and the absence of an obvious consensus choice capable of commanding stable parliamentary support in the coming weeks.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
