Recent August 2026 polling averages place the AfD at 41–43% in Sachsen-Anhalt, well ahead of the CDU at 22–24% and other parties near or below the 5% threshold, ahead of the September 6 Landtag election. These figures project the AfD to roughly 40–42 seats in an 83-seat parliament—close to but typically short of the absolute majority threshold of 42 under Germany’s mixed-member proportional system, which factors in overhang mandates and smaller-party results. Other parties have continued to rule out coalitions with the AfD, limiting its path to government without a standalone majority. Polling has remained stable in this range through the summer without the surge needed to cross the majority line, sustaining trader consensus on the “No” outcome.
