A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck Colombia on August 10 at approximately 110 km depth, immediately elevating the market-implied probability of at least one M6.5+ event for the August 10–16 window to over 99%. This event, the strongest in the region in years per USGS data, aligns with the leading 60.5% odds for exactly one such quake, reflecting traders' assessment that typical global rates (roughly 1–2 M6.5+ events per week on average) plus aftershock potential in active zones like the Philippines and Alaska favor a single count. Subsequent monitoring through August 13 shows no additional M6.5+ events, keeping the 27.5% odds on two relatively low amid moderate overall seismic energy release and the deep focal depth limiting widespread aftershocks. Upcoming USGS and global network updates through August 16 will clarify whether regional sequences push totals higher.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program, with the minimum magnitude set to 6.5 and the date parameters set to the relevant dates for this market's timeframe (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/search/).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until August 19, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
This market may not resolve until the timeframe of this market has concluded. If a qualifying earthquake has been recorded on the final day, this market may remain open for 24 hours to allow for revisions to the recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
