Lin Kuo-chang holds the strongest position in the November 28, 2026, Yilan County magistrate race as the Democratic Progressive Party nominee, benefiting from unified party backing after prior factional strains and his established local profile as a long-practicing lawyer in the county. The opposition Kuomintang-TPP alliance consolidated behind Wu Tsung-hsien following his narrow win in their joint polling primary over Chen Wan-hui, yet Wu trails amid limited personal ties to Yilan and lingering effects from the prior KMT administration’s legal issues that disrupted succession planning. Recent registration filings confirmed five magistrate candidates, including independents, while opposition criticism has targeted Lin’s state-owned enterprise roles and compensation. Polling trends and the county’s historical leanings continue to underpin trader pricing, with the election still weeks away and subject to further campaign developments or turnout shifts.
