Recent National Weather Service and private model guidance points to a warm front and associated shower/thunderstorm activity arriving Saturday, September 19, as the dominant influence on Chicago’s daily maximum. Cloud cover and evaporational cooling from widespread precipitation are expected to cap afternoon temperatures near or slightly above the late-September climatological average of 74.8 °F, while any breaks in the overcast or delayed onset of storms could allow brief warming into the upper 70s or low 80s. Lake-breeze circulation and southeasterly flow may further modulate readings along the shoreline versus inland sites. With the event only 48 hours away, successive model runs and the next NWS forecast discussion will be the primary catalysts for shifts in the closely bunched market-implied probabilities across the 70–85 °F range.
