Trader consensus at near-100% implied probability for a 70-71°F high in Chicago on September 18 reflects verified National Weather Service observations at primary stations, which recorded a daily maximum in that narrow range. Persistent cloud cover, southeasterly flow, and moisture from an approaching system limited daytime heating well below the 1991-2020 normal of roughly 75°F, consistent with model guidance issued in the prior 48 hours. This skin-in-the-game assessment draws on real-time surface data and climatological context showing suppressed diurnal ranges under overcast conditions. A realistic challenge would require substantially clearer skies or an unexpected warm-air advection event, neither of which occurred before the observation window closed.
