Alaska’s August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary features 17 candidates vying for an open gubernatorial seat after incumbent Mike Dunleavy completes his term. The system advances the four highest vote-getters to a November ranked-choice general election. Recent polling and reporting highlight Democrats Tom Begich and Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins as likely advancers, while Republican support fragments among frontrunners including Click Bishop, Dave Bronson, Bernadette Wilson, and Adam Crum. Campaign activity centers on voter outreach across the state’s dispersed population, with attention on oil revenue, fiscal policy, and rural infrastructure. The compressed timeline leaves limited opportunity for late shifts before ballots are cast.
