Silver (XAG/USD) traded near $64 per ounce mid-week after a volatile start, with the primary driver being the Federal Reserve’s September 16 decision to raise the federal funds rate 25 basis points to a 3.75–4.00% target range—its first hike since 2023—paired with hawkish signals of at least one additional increase this year. Hotter-than-expected August CPI data and a brief oil-price spike from Middle East supply concerns had already lifted rate-hike odds above 85%, pushing real yields higher and pressuring non-yielding metals. Subsequent easing in crude prices provided modest relief, allowing a partial rebound from post-decision lows near $62.30. Traders are now focused on October FOMC communications, upcoming inflation releases, and the dollar’s trajectory as key swing factors for near-term price action.
