In May 2026, U.S. officials reported Iran's in-principle agreement to dispose of highly enriched uranium through dilution, neutralization, or transfer to a third country such as China under IAEA verification, though Iranian sources have disputed full handover terms and a final accord remains unsigned. Recent bilateral talks have also addressed related issues including Strait of Hormuz access and broader program restrictions. Upcoming diplomatic milestones, verification milestones, or shifts in official statements could alter the timeline for any binding commitment before resolution deadlines.
