Christopher Luxon secured National Party caucus backing in an August 12 confidence vote, his second such test in four months, after reports of internal leaks and discontent. He stated the caucus was united and focused on the November 7 general election. Recent 1News/Verian polling placed his preferred-prime-minister rating at 17 percent amid sluggish growth and coalition strains, yet National maintains a narrow lead over Labour. No procedural deadlines, cabinet upheavals, or external triggers point to a leadership change before September 30, aligning with trader consensus that removal remains improbable in the short window.
