Hotter-than-expected August CPI data, with headline inflation at 3.4% and core rising 0.3% month-over-month, has lifted market-implied odds of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike at the September 16 FOMC meeting to roughly 87-88%. This repricing has supported the DXY near 99.3, with the index posting modest gains amid firmer Treasury yields and reduced expectations for near-term easing. Traders are now focused on the FOMC statement and updated projections for signals on further tightening, alongside this week’s retail sales, industrial production, and housing data that could refine rate-path views. Recent positioning shows stretched long-dollar exposure, leaving room for two-way volatility if Fed guidance disappoints hawkish bets.
