Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model runs point to moderating temperatures in Chicago on September 6 after an unseasonably hot early-month ridge, with forecast highs clustered near 78–81 °F under developing northeast flow. This pattern follows several days of mid-90s readings driven by a strong mid-upper level high that suppressed cloud cover and advection; the ridge’s eastward shift now allows cooler, drier air from the Great Lakes to arrive, lowering dew points and capping daytime maxima near or slightly above the 1991–2020 normal of roughly 79–80 °F. Lake-breeze effects and minor timing differences in frontal passage create the tight spread among leading market bins, while longer-range guidance shows limited potential for renewed warming before the date. Updated 12Z and 00Z model cycles on September 5 will refine the precise maximum.
