Recent forecasts from the National Weather Service and models indicate a cooling trend for Los Angeles on August 31, driven by an upper-level trough replacing the prior heat dome and tropical moisture from Tropical Storm Iselle remnants with drier southwest flow. This follows a late-August heat wave fueled by marine heat wave conditions and El Niño-enhanced ocean temperatures, which elevated humidity and pushed recent highs well above the 76–77°F climatological average for downtown stations. Current guidance points to partly cloudy skies with morning marine layer influence limiting peak temperatures to the upper 70s through low 80s range, consistent with the market's leading 78–79°F outcome at 45% implied probability. Updated model runs and NWS briefings over the next 48 hours will refine the exact maximum before resolution.
