Local results show him ahead by several points in the county, consistent with Democratic voter preferences in this urban stronghold over rivals like Tom Steyer, whose self-funded campaign has narrowed the gap but trails in early returns. Other contenders including Tony Thurmond, Katie Porter, and Matt Mahan remain fragmented with minimal traction, while Republican options such as Steve Hilton draw limited cross-party support locally. Ongoing ballot processing and historical patterns in Santa Clara favor the current frontrunner as certification approaches.
