Recent forecasts from MetService and international models indicate a southerly wind shift and frontal passage over Wellington on September 7, replacing mild northwesterlies with cooler southeasterly flow and widespread rain. This setup favors daytime maxima near 10–13 °C, consistent with the market’s concentration around 12–14 °C. Key variables include the exact timing of the front—earlier arrival would suppress the peak further—cloud cover and rainfall intensity, which reduce insolation, and localized sheltering effects in the harbor basin. Historical September baselines of 13–14 °C provide context, yet current ensemble guidance shows limited upside potential above 15 °C and non-negligible downside risk below 11 °C, sustaining the observed probability spread.
