Israeli military operations remain concentrated in southern Lebanon’s security zone south of the Litani River, where forces continue targeted strikes and infrastructure dismantlement following repeated Hezbollah drone and projectile incidents. A U.S.-brokered framework agreement for phased Israeli withdrawal, Hezbollah disarmament, and Lebanese army deployment in pilot zones has faced explicit rejection by Hezbollah leadership, prolonging tensions without triggering broader northern advances. Recent UNIFIL reporting documented hundreds of Israeli projectiles and airspace violations in a single August weekend, the heaviest in months, while strikes on southern suburbs of Beirut occurred earlier but produced no ground incursions into the capital itself. Diplomatic tracks in Rome and Washington, alongside U.S. pressure, continue to shape the narrow window for escalation versus de-escalation before any potential market resolution date.
