The vacancy created by Karoline Leavitt’s departure at the end of August 2026 has left the White House without a designated press secretary, prompting traders to spread probability across a wide field of potential briefers. Vice President JD Vance’s September 3 briefing marked the first such event since her exit, while President Trump and senior officials including Marco Rubio, Stephen Miller, and Scott Bessent have filled similar roles during prior gaps. Without an announced successor or clear timeline for naming one, market prices reflect uncertainty over whether future briefings will rotate among cabinet members, White House staff, or the president himself, with no single contender yet establishing a consistent advantage in the interim period.

Resolution is based on who actually delivers the briefing from the podium, not on who is listed or announced in advance. If the individual scheduled or announced to give a briefing does not ultimately lead it, this market will resolve to the individual who does. An individual who appears at a qualifying briefing only as a guest, or who speaks only after being introduced by the individual leading the briefing, will not qualify.
For the purposes of this market, a White House press briefing is an event listed on the public White House schedule as a press briefing. Any such briefing will qualify, even if the individual leading it has not been formally announced as the Press Secretary or as an acting or interim Press Secretary. "New Media" briefings and special briefings including additional guests will qualify, so long as the individual leads the briefing.
Impromptu press gaggles, and remarks that are not listed on the public schedule as a press briefing, will not qualify.
If two or more individuals jointly lead the next qualifying briefing, this market will resolve to the individual who speaks first.
If no qualifying White House press briefing occurs by September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other".
This market will resolve based on footage of the briefing, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting.
