Incumbent Republican Bob Latta, serving since 2007, faces Democratic nominee Brian Shaver in the November 3, 2026 general election for Ohio's 5th congressional district. The district's Republican tilt, reflected in Latta's 67.5% victory in 2024, underpins the 93.5% trader consensus for the Republican Party. Primary results and recent August 2026 polls showing Latta ahead by double digits reinforce this positioning through consistent voter patterns and limited Democratic infrastructure. Key factors include the incumbent's established record, the district's composition spanning rural northwest Ohio and areas like Findlay and Bowling Green, and absence of major scandals or national shifts altering the race. Scenarios that could narrow the gap include a significant late-breaking event, health developments, or an unexpected turnout surge, though historical base rates suggest limited volatility.
