His recent August 6 announcement of a third-term bid, limited declared challengers such as Heymann Yip and Michael Angelo, and cross-party support in prior cycles have reinforced trader expectations of continuity. The nomination window opening September 1 could still surface additional candidates or shifts in local issues like housing policy and regional coordination that might narrow the gap, though historical patterns in Burnaby municipal contests favor established incumbents when opposition remains fragmented.
