Nicolás Maduro faces U.S. narco-terrorism and cocaine importation conspiracy charges in the Southern District of New York following his January 2026 capture and extradition. He and co-defendant Cilia Flores have pleaded not guilty, with a June 2027 trial date set after a July 22, 2026 hearing. Defense counsel plans motions to dismiss on head-of-state immunity grounds, challenges to the operation's legality, and jurisdictional issues, with filing deadlines beginning in September. These pretrial hurdles, combined with the extended timeline before any jury verdict and historical complexities in similar prosecutions, underpin trader consensus that conviction on every count remains uncertain.
