Recent National Weather Service guidance and ensemble model consensus point to overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 60s°F for Chicago on September 17, with persistent cloud cover, scattered showers, and northeast winds limiting nocturnal radiative cooling and advecting milder maritime air. These conditions, combined with elevated dew points near 65°F and Lake Michigan moderation, support the market’s near-even split between the 66-67°F bin at 52% implied probability and the 59°F-or-below outcome at 47.5%. Historical September climatology shows average lows near 58°F, but current synoptic patterns favor reduced cooling relative to clear-sky baselines. Updated NHC and local WFO forecasts through the evening will refine the final minimum before resolution.
