The Kagawa gubernatorial election, set for August 30, 2026, features incumbent Toyohito Ikeda seeking a second term against challengers including Kenichi Tanabe, Fumihiko Senoo, and Katsunori Sone, all running as independents. Ikeda holds endorsements from multiple parties and business groups, with his record on child-rearing support, regional revitalization around Takamatsu Station, and economic measures forming the central debate. Tanabe, backed by the Communist Party, and the two other newcomers trail in trader pricing, reflecting limited name recognition and narrower bases ahead of the August 13 official start. The narrow spread between the top two underscores a competitive dynamic where turnout among undecided voters and any late shifts in party or local alignments could widen the gap before ballots close.
