Traders are balancing National Weather Service and model guidance pointing to an overnight low near 79°F in Houston on September 9 against scenarios of reduced radiative cooling from persistent cloud cover or evening thunderstorms. Current forecasts show highs in the low 90s with 40-50% storm chances that could limit the typical 15-20°F diurnal drop under high humidity and light southeast winds. The 78-79°F bin leads at 40% implied probability as the most likely outcome per ensemble consensus, while the 35% on 90°F or higher captures low-probability cases of minimal overnight cooling. Recent days’ upper-70s to low-80s lows and the absence of strong frontal systems reinforce elevated odds above the 74°F climatological average, with final resolution hinging on tonight’s model updates and NWS point forecasts.
