Persistent marine layer and cool onshore flow from a series of weak low-pressure systems are keeping San Francisco temperatures well below seasonal norms into early September, with National Weather Service forecasts showing overnight lows in the upper 50s for September 2 amid patchy drizzle and high humidity. This setup, extending the late-August cooldown of 10–15°F below average, favors minimum readings near the historical 56°F baseline rather than extremes, while model consensus on marine layer depth introduces modest uncertainty around the 54–59°F range. Traders appear to weigh these verified observational trends and short-range guidance against the narrow window for any late warming before the overnight period resolves the market.
