Recent polling averages position left-wing frontrunner Iván Cepeda well ahead for first place in the May 31 first round, leaving the contest for second place focused on right-leaning challengers. Abelardo de la Espriella has gained ground through consolidation of security-focused voters behind his hardline platform on armed groups and coca eradication, outpacing Paloma Valencia in multiple late-April and mid-May surveys despite her strong March coalition primary performance. This dynamic has narrowed realistic paths for other candidates, with the market reflecting trader assessments of these trends ahead of the vote that determines any June 21 runoff pairing.
