Current forecast consensus from NWS and other models points to a highest temperature in Chicago on September 20 in the upper 60s to low 70s, with showers likely under northeast flow. This setup brings cooler maritime air and extensive cloud cover that limits surface heating, while steady precipitation further suppresses the daily maximum. Hourly guidance shows peaks near 68–72°F depending on rain timing and breaks in clouds, creating the tight clustering around 68–71°F bins. Traders weigh model spread in boundary-layer moisture and wind shifts against historical September averages near 74°F, with resolution hinging on official observations at Chicago O’Hare or Midway. Updated NWS and mesoscale model runs through the weekend will refine the exact high.
