Recent polling and byelection results have positioned Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon as the frontrunner to become Quebec’s next premier following the October 5, 2026, general election. His party maintains a consistent edge in francophone ridings, where it has secured four consecutive byelection victories, enabling projected seat majorities under the first-past-the-post system despite close popular-vote totals with the Quebec Liberal Party. Charles Milliard’s February acclamation as Liberal leader has revived support in Montreal and anglophone areas, narrowing the gap in some surveys. Christine Fréchette, who succeeded François Legault as Coalition Avenir Québec leader and premier in April, faces significant headwinds from post-incumbency fatigue and low party support. Traders’ consensus reflects these electoral dynamics and the absence of major late-cycle shifts.
