Florida's 16th congressional district features an open seat following the retirement of long-serving Republican incumbent Vern Buchanan, creating a competitive Republican primary among candidates including Sydney Gruters, Ed Pope, and Eddie Speir ahead of the August 18, 2026, primaries. The district carries a Cook Partisan Voter Index of R+6 and supported the Republican presidential nominee by double digits in recent cycles, aligning with nonpartisan ratings of Solid Republican or Likely Republican. Multiple Democratic primary contenders, such as Jonathan Harris and Kelly Kirschner, are competing but face structural headwinds in a district where Republican nominees have historically prevailed by comfortable margins. An independent candidate has also filed for the November general election. These factors underpin the current trader consensus favoring a Republican outcome, with limited recent developments altering the established partisan baseline.

A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
