Republican incumbent Nick LaLota holds a strong position in New York’s 1st congressional district, a Suffolk County seat on eastern Long Island that Trump carried by roughly 10 points in 2024. LaLota, a Navy veteran first elected in 2022, won re-election that year by a similar margin and faces no Republican primary opposition. Democrat Christopher Gallant, an air traffic controller, secured his party’s nomination in the June 23, 2026 primary but enters the November 3 general election as a political newcomer in a district rated solidly Republican by forecasters. Recent LaLota announcements securing federal funding for local law enforcement have reinforced his incumbency edge. Trader pricing at 74.5% Republican reflects these structural advantages and limited signs of a competitive shift.
