Improvements occurred across parts of the Northeast, Midwest, and Florida from recent rainfall, while degradation continued in northern New England and portions of the Great Plains. The U.S. Drought Monitor, produced jointly by the National Drought Mitigation Center, NOAA, USDA, and NASA using multiple indicators including soil moisture, streamflow, and expert input, updates weekly each Thursday; the map for the week of September 15 will likely be released September 17 and will directly inform state-level D4 presence based on conditions observed around mid-month. Short-term forecasts indicate variable precipitation that could influence further changes before resolution.
