**Sam Altman has publicly endorsed the core ideas behind pacing frontier AI development and committed OpenAI to measures like independent evaluators with employee-like access, yet he has not signed the employee-driven "Pacing the Frontier" statement since its July 2026 launch.** The document, which has attracted over 1,300 verified signatories from labs including OpenAI staff, requests U.S. government-backed international tools for coordinated slowdowns if automated AI research outpaces control. Altman’s September 2026 remarks on X and in interviews stress that “pacing” means deliberate but continued progress with safety costs, while avoiding direct personal endorsement of the statement itself. With the September 30 deadline just days away and no reported shift toward signing, trader consensus at 94.5% for “No” reflects the consistent separation between his corporate positions and this specific employee petition. A last-minute personal signature remains possible if internal or industry pressure mounts, though recent patterns suggest limited likelihood.

A qualifying listing must identify Sam Altman by name together with his role at OpenAI, or otherwise make clear that the signatory is the CEO of OpenAI. Once Sam Altman is listed or confirms signing, this market will resolve to "Yes" regardless of whether his name is later removed or the statement is later amended.
The primary resolution source for this market will be the signatory list at pacingthefrontier.com; however, official statements from Sam Altman or OpenAI and a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
