The map released September 3, valid through September 1, already depicts limited D4 areas in Texas, New Mexico, Idaho, Nebraska, Mississippi, and North Carolina, with further degradation noted in the South-Central region and along the North Dakota–South Dakota–Minnesota border. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center outlooks favor continued dry conditions and warmer temperatures through mid-September in these zones, increasing evapotranspiration and soil moisture deficits. The next USDM update, expected September 10 with data through September 8, along with any revised short-term forecasts, will directly inform resolution.
