Recent July CPI data easing to a six-month low of 0.5% year-over-year, below forecasts, has anchored trader expectations for August around subdued levels amid persistent weak domestic demand and softer food prices. This reflects ongoing deflationary pressures in consumer goods and services, with core inflation also moderating as the temporary energy price boost from earlier geopolitical tensions fades. The narrow gap between the leading 0.5-0.6% and 0.7-0.8% brackets arises from uncertainty over monthly base effects, any lagged effects from fiscal or monetary support measures, and potential shifts in commodity trends ahead of the early-September release. Stronger retail sales or producer price spillovers could lift probabilities toward the higher range, while further demand softness would favor the lower outcome.
