Recent National Weather Service and model guidance point to a typical late-September marine layer pattern over San Francisco, with onshore southwest winds and morning cloud cover limiting daytime heating and keeping the high temperature near the seasonal average of 70–71 °F. Forecasts cluster between 68 °F and the mid-70s depending on how quickly clouds clear and whether wind speeds briefly relax, creating the near-even split between the 70–71 °F and 72–73 °F bins. Any reduction in marine influence or stronger insolation could push readings into the low 70s, while persistent stratus or stronger westerlies would favor the upper 60s. Updated model runs and afternoon observations on September 19 will determine which narrow range ultimately resolves the market.
