Romania's fragmented parliament and the May 5 no-confidence vote that ousted Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan have kept the race for his successor tightly contested, with no single candidate commanding broad trader support. President Nicușor Dan has begun formal party consultations to identify a nominee backed by a parliamentary majority, explicitly ruling out experiments with candidates unlikely to secure confirmation and signaling openness to a technocratic option. Leading names such as Șerban Matei and Radu Burnete appear tied to these presidential discussions, yet the absence of a clear coalition formula among pro-European parties and the inclusion of far-right voices in talks sustain uncertainty. Any announcement of a majority-backed nominee or breakdown in negotiations could quickly shift probabilities ahead of the June 30 resolution window.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
