After the March 2026 parliamentary elections produced a fragmented 90-seat National Assembly with the Freedom Movement securing just 29 seats and the Slovenian Democratic Party 28, outgoing Prime Minister Robert Golob proved unable to assemble a viable coalition in subsequent rounds of talks. This deadlock shifted the initiative to Janez Janša and centre-right partners, positioning his SDS-led bloc for nomination and confirmation by simple majority. The resulting trader consensus reflects expectations of imminent government formation under Slovenia’s post-election procedures, though realistic hurdles include final coalition negotiations, potential defections among smaller parties, or a failed parliamentary vote that could reopen talks or trigger snap elections.
