Philippe, who declared early and secured reelection as Le Havre mayor, benefits from ralliements by figures such as Gérald Darmanin and efforts to consolidate the bloc without a primary. Attal, who formalized his Renaissance candidacy in May 2026, emphasizes renewal on issues like schools, wages, borders, and AI but trails in head-to-head scenarios within the centrist space. Recent exchanges, including Philippe’s unity overtures rebuffed by Attal and debates over transition timing, underscore the rivalry, while far-right candidates lead overall first-round intentions, pressuring the center to unify.
