General elections are scheduled to be held in Ethiopia on June 1, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Prime Minister of Ethiopia following the 2026 General elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially appointed and sworn in as Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2028, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Ethiopia; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed maintains a commanding position as Ethiopia’s head of government, with recent activities including participation in the May 2026 Africa Forward Summit, revised economic growth projections of 10.2 percent for the fiscal year, and ongoing initiatives on green industrialization and national infrastructure. These developments reinforce trader consensus around his continued tenure, as no scheduled national elections or formal transition processes appear imminent under current constitutional arrangements. Regional tensions, such as the extension of Tigray’s interim administration through April 2027 and related party disputes, have not produced viable alternatives at the federal level. Scenarios that could still shift probabilities include unexpected health developments, major policy reversals prompting internal party realignment, or escalation of ongoing security challenges in Amhara or Oromia regions that alters legislative support.
