Recent July University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment data, revised higher to 55.2 from a 54.4 preliminary print, has anchored trader expectations for the August preliminary release near 52–57.9. Broad-based gains across income and demographic groups reflected easing gasoline prices and modestly lower one-year inflation expectations at 4.2%, though the index remains more than 10% below year-ago levels amid five years of elevated prices. Persistent cost-of-living concerns and a still-soft labor market backdrop continue to weigh on the longer-term outlook, while upcoming CPI and employment releases will provide key signals ahead of the August 14 print. Market-implied odds cluster tightly around the recent rebound level, reflecting measured optimism tempered by structural headwinds.
