Recent July ISM Services PMI data at 54.1, following 54.0 in June and 54.5 in May, anchors trader expectations for the August reading near the same moderate expansion levels. Steady new orders and business activity subindexes have supported resilience in the services sector, which accounts for the bulk of U.S. economic activity, even as employment contracted and the prices index remained elevated near 70 amid petroleum cost pressures and lingering tariff effects. Broader context includes solid July manufacturing PMI strength at 55.6 and ongoing concerns over mortgage rates and inflation, which limit upside while preventing sharp downside. With the August report due September 3, these contained dynamics keep the 52–55 range tightly contested as the market-implied consensus.
