Latest National Weather Service forecasts point to an overnight low in the upper 50s for San Francisco on September 2, driven by a persistent marine layer that has suppressed temperatures well below seasonal norms. This layer, reinforced by southwest flow and light winds, promotes fog and stratus that limit radiational cooling while keeping readings close to the historical average low of 56°F. Model consensus shows minimal day-to-day change, yet subtle shifts in cloud cover, wind speed, or marine intrusion timing can alter the precise minimum by 2–4°F, producing the market’s broad distribution across 50–67°F buckets and near-zero odds for 68°F or higher. Updated NWS guidance tonight will further refine these thresholds ahead of resolution.
