Incumbent Prime Minister Robert Abela commands 90.5% trader consensus as next Prime Minister of Malta, reflecting his Labour Party's strong incumbency advantage and recent polling leads ahead of the May 30 snap general election. Abela called the early vote on April 28 amid rising energy costs from Middle East tensions and inflation fears, framing it as a mandate for stable leadership; a May 9 survey shows him preferred over Nationalist leader Alex Borg by 14 points. Campaign rhetoric centers on Labour's economic resilience versus Nationalist calls for accountability on corruption. While fringe candidates trail, a late Nationalist surge, voter turnout shifts in proportional representation, or scandal could challenge Abela's path to forming the next government.
