Recent developments in French politics have elevated Jordan Bardella as the frontrunner for the National Rally's 2027 presidential nomination, reflecting trader consensus on his role as the party's primary standard-bearer. Marine Le Pen's 2025 conviction for misuse of European Parliament funds, which includes a five-year ban from public office pending appeal, has accelerated the party's generational transition. Bardella, the party's president, has consolidated support through strong polling performances exceeding 35 percent in first-round scenarios and recent gains in municipal elections. The Paris Court of Appeal's July 7 ruling on Le Pen's eligibility remains a key uncertainty that could alter the outcome, though current positioning favors Bardella amid the party's broader efforts to expand its voter base ahead of the April 2027 vote.
