Incumbent Republican Steve Scalise faces a jungle primary on November 3, 2026, in Louisiana’s 1st congressional district, where any candidate exceeding 50 percent wins outright without a December runoff. Scalise, the House Majority Leader, previously captured 66.8 percent in 2024 in this solidly Republican seat covering suburban New Orleans areas. Recent candidate qualifying, which closed August 7, produced limited opposition including Republican Randall Arrington and Democrat Lauren Jewett, with no evidence of vote fragmentation sufficient to block a majority. Trader pricing at 91.5 percent for an outright winner aligns with the district’s partisan composition, Scalise’s fundraising and name recognition advantages, and historical performance patterns in similar Louisiana open primaries. Scheduled events within the resolution window remain limited to standard campaign activity ahead of the November ballot.
