Incumbent Republican Clay Higgins holds a commanding position in Louisiana’s 3rd congressional district, a Republican-leaning area encompassing Lafayette and Lake Charles. Higgins secured 70.6 percent of the vote in the 2024 jungle primary, winning outright without a runoff. Multiple Democratic challengers, including Tia LeBrun and John Day, have qualified for the November 3, 2026 primary, yet none appear positioned to mount a competitive threat based on prior results and fundraising patterns. Louisiana’s all-candidate primary format requires a majority for an outright victory; traders view the district’s consistent partisan tilt and Higgins’s established support as making a first-round majority highly probable, with limited scope for late developments to alter that trajectory before election day.
